Ever since the tsunami and the earthquake in Japan, I have been thinking if the mother earth is trying to give us subtle messages that you and I are not listening to.

Recently, I was in a Qi Gong class – my first experience in learning the art of cultivating energy. I am unable to articulate in words what my experience was because something like this can only be felt and experienced and not be simply put in words.I was amazed at how absent we are in our day-to-day life and how self-obsessed we can be by being neglectful of others and our surroundings (plants, animals, the earth). How many us have suffered from IBS or some form of constipation or diarrhea at some point of time in our life? Too many, I am sure.

According to Ayurveda, the quality of your health greatly depends of how good your digestion or digestive Agni (fire) is. So, let us not ignore the occurrence of constipation/ diarrhea especially if it has continued for long stretches of time. (more…)

How many different diet plans have you heard of or read in the past where you’ve been asked to eliminate carbohydrates from your diet? I am sure plenty. Right? And, when you did eliminate it, what did you experience? The loss of energy and general lethargy accompanied with several other health issues. Just because I said ‘ Love your carbs’, does not mean you can now go binge on that pizza for dinner tonight!

For years, we have tried to reduce fat consumption without a clear distinction between good vs. bad fats in hope of better health. “ Eating a low-fat, low –cholesterol diet” has been the mantra for decades and millions of us have tried to follow this advice hoping to lose weight, prevent heart disease and other chronic conditions. In today’s day and age when it is hard enough to fathom what will happen in the next minute, attempting to predict what my life will be like at the age of 75 and above is highly difficult. But I do think that it is important, as it will allow me to plan for my old age better. As a firm believer of the power of visualization, writing what life will be like in my later years would only make my vision into reality. If I can visualize myself aging healthy, the possibility of that happening is greater and I will like to take necessary steps starting now to achieve that goal. (more…)

As most of us know, the brain is made up of fatty acids, water and minerals and hence we could possibly conclude that the foods we eat affect what we think and how we think.
